Western spadefoots

Postby djp_phillips » Mon May 08, 2006 12:13 pm

what species of insect should I give to my upcoming Western spadefoots? They will be about 20 to 35 mm long when they metamorphose, at the moment they are 100 mm long tadpoles!

I´m not too good with Spadefoots, but I would suggest "Pinhead" crickets, or wildcaught food in the proper size.

yes ok, but I don't wish to catch the food, for example i am giving to the tadpoles fish food (natural dead insects), I need to buy a certain species of fly of other so I can raise the toads

Ahaa.. Pinhead-size-crickets or Curlywinged Friutflies then. You can often buy start-cultures of these flies on line..

A good food source for small toadlets is springtails (temperate black, tropical white) I have raised many very small toads on these for a few years now, moving up to melanogaster fruit flies and then hydei when appropriate.
